Episode 111: Haunted by a Muppet with AP Strange

Poltergeist phenomena is one of my favorite categories of weirdness, It can come on slowly, sneaking up, starting with little things like misplacing small objects around the house. Things that can be explained by kids playing pranks, cats being cats or creeping forgetfulness with adults.

And the next thing you know, it ramps up, and you start hearing banging, crashing, babies crying, and rocks start to fall from the ceiling. Doors open and close without the aid of hands or wind or dogs, and electronic equipment starts going awry.

And then voices. Or notes appear. And you see things moving around without any visible human cause.

And then, sometimes, fires start.

Or, even more likely, things just stop happening out of the blue, and everyone goes back to having normal lives.

AP Strange, who’s been a good friend for a while, grew up in a house where poltergeist phenomena occurred. The last time we were talking, he mentioned that in the midst of poltergeist activity, he and his family were haunted by a possessed Muppet. It’s something he seldom talks about, but I had to know, so I asked if he’d at least tell me, but it would make a great episode, so…..

And this episode is the result. He tells the whole story and it’s a doozy, and one thing I realized as I listened to it, is that whatever was in that house was in part copying the action in a comic he was drawing at the time, about an unlucky character who had things like safes dropped on their head…..It’s a weird, weird story….
