Episode 143: Translating Paranormal Experiences into Fiction with Mike Clelland

“Desert Lights” Digital painting by Barbara Fisher. Created in Procreate on an iPad. 2023

This episode is special.

Well, all the episodes are special in one way or another, but this one is special in tto share how his lifelong UFO experiences, owls encounters and synchronicities were transformed into a compelling novel that shows us both the subtlety of these phenomena and the enormity of their impact on the average human life.

The discussion goes far and wide, and encompasses much more than the struggles of a fiction writer producing their first novel.

It’s about creativity, and how the paranormal seems to be linked to the human impulse to create art. It’s about language and the magic that rests in words. It’s about literature, fiction and non-fiction and sometimes, fiction can tell us more about reality than non-fiction can. It’s about painting. It’s about film. It’s about shamanism. It’s about the spirit of place, of a search for home, of the heart, mind and soul.

It’s about finding your place in the world. It’s about animism. It’s about life, love and a longing to understand. To know. To be.

It’s a fun conversation and I hope you enjoy listening.
