Episode 74: Where Have All The Saucers Gone? with Marco Acevedo

Marco asked if he could come back and talk about a project he’s been working on for a long while now, that involved figuring out the place that the image of flying saucers—not UFO’s, but flying saucers—have in our social history.

You know, of course I said yes.

Flying saucers—those quintessential images from the 1950’s—through the 1980’s—of rounded, lenticular or discoid shapes whizzing around our skies, buzzing commercial aircraft, landing in cornfields or playing chase with police cars are very much a product of their time period. They were born of the cultural soup that made up the post-WWII, mid-twentieth century, post nuclear bomb era, and it seems that they aren’t seen as much in our skies these days.

Why is that? Where have all the saucers gone.

Well, listen to Marco, and find out.

Now this episode did get cut in half by technical difficulties beyond everyone’s control, so it ends a little awkwardly, but it’s still fascinating listening to Marco discuss his process of researching his audio-visual streaming presentation.

And it whets your appetite for the presentation itself.

”The Spark and the Vessel: Reverse Engineering the Flying Saucer Archetype” will be streamed live Friday April 22nd from 8pmEST to 12amEST. Presented by Strange Realities, you can get tickets here.

Now, on to the images Marco referenced in this episode—because you need to see them to visualize what he means.
