Episode 122: Superspectrum Psychedelica With Jake and Josh

“From the Orange World.” Digital Art by Barbara Fisher 2023.

Hey, y’all!

Now this episode is interesting, because some of the stories involve psychedelic substances and high strangeness, BUT—Jake reports that he had weird experiences since childhood, long before using psychedelics. So, clearly, the psychedelics were not the lone causative factor in every experience.

In fact, some of the more spectacularly strange sightings and happenings occurred without psychedelics at all.

In addition, Josh is himself a skeptic, but he saw the same thing that Jake did in a very striking incident—and there were no psychedelics. It’s a creepy, creepy story that happened while driving late at night (things always happen late at night while driving……) and it is an unforgettable tale that has lots of corroborative stories from others in the same area.

So, what about the psychedelics? If they don’t feature in the most wild experiences, what effect do they have when it comes to high strangeness?

Well, it’s a change in consciousness. And I think we can all agree that some high strangeness activity occurs when percipients have had some sort of change from their ordinary every day reality, and are witnessing a difference that stems from a change in their consciousness.

I personally am of the belief that consciousness changes brought on by psychedelics are just as legitimate as consciousness changes brought on by illness, extreme injury, drumming, meditation and other means, and that high strangeness experienced in either case are just as real—-its just a different way to experience high strangeness.

Look for more episodes in the future discussing these issues…..

Oh, and one more thing: Listen carefully to see if you can spot a few similarities to Jake’s stories and the ones from John Frum last week. I didn’t plan that, but it’s an interesting juxtaposition.
